Maybe this is the Pirates year. The Bucs recently took 3 out of 4 from the Mets at Citi Park. Those 3 wins equaled their total number of wins at Citi Park for the previous 4 years.

Devin Beggs, son of Denny and Delia Guillen Beggs of Franklin, was recently named to the East Coast Athletic Conference’s all conference squad in the men’s 800 meter run.

Dick’s Thoughts - Former Moniteau and Arizona State standout Brice Schwab has signed a free agent contract with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Looking at the Tampa roster Brice has a strong chance of making their roster.
Former AC Valley standout Blayne McGuirk is having a strong season playing catcher for Allegany College of Maryland.

Dick’s Thoughts:
The Steelers went safe with first round pick Jarvis Jones. The Black and Gold needed a linebacker to play opposite of LaMarr Woodley and Jason Worilds has never set the world on fire. Most sources had the Steelers taking Jones for the past few weeks. I was surprised Big Ben was not in the war room pushing for Tyler Eifert to be selected.

Former Moniteau basketball and track standout Autumn Kramer is playing defensive back for the Pittsburgh Passion in the Women’s Professional Football League.

Mike’s Commentary: While I haven’t seen as much of this year’s NCAA basketball tourney as I’d like, it has been fascinating to say the least. Through last Thursday night’s games, the higher seeded team had won only 36 of 52 contests, or 69%.

Dick’s Thoughts- University of Central Florida golf coach Emily Marron currently has her Knights ranked #40 in the nation.

Dick’s Thoughts
The Steelers have been stung by the high number of free agents leaving the Black and Gold, but don’t give up hope going into this year. Since the Browns came back to football in 1999 their winning percentage is .326, the Bengals last won a home playoff game in 1990, and though the Ravens won last year’s Super Bowl you will need a program to know their players after free agency. If the Steelers go 8-8 they will be in hunt for the division title.

Congratulations to former A-C Valley golf standout Joe Boros for being named to the Western Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame. Joe started out with a set of golf clubs that cost $30 and spent hour after hour walking the hills of Foxburg.
