Dave Haunty's military traveling tribute.

Bruin Elementary School held an open house in honor of Veterans’ Day on Wednesday, November 9 from 6:30 to 8:00 PM. This year they had a special display created by Dave Haunty, a resident of Butler County. The display was on the bottom floor of the Bruin Elementary building. In addition, recognition photos of local veterans that students have been submitted and were on display in the gymnasium.  A video tribute was also shown in the gym which spans World War II to the present.
Mr. Haunty has created his own traveling tribute to Butler County’s military personnel who lost their lives in time of war and in the line of duty. The tribute is approximately 60 feet in length with a center piece of a soldier kneeling in respect for “His Fallen Brothers”.  The tribute displays the names and information of over 450 servicemen who were killed in action during World War II, Korea, Vietnam, Operation Iraqi Freedom, and Operation Enduring Freedom. Although the focus is on the Butler County born military, the display also honors all Veterans. Haunty is a United States Marine Corps Vietnam Veteran and started this project as a personal tribute to 125 Marines killed in action in his own Marine Corps Combat Engineer unit while in Vietnam.
