Catherine Aretta Shay

CATHERINE ARETTA SHAY, 89, of Perryville, Parker, Pa. passed away 4:34 AM Tuesday morning August 10, 2010,  at Clarview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center at Sligo following an illness.
Born in Rimersburg, Pa., on March 1, 1921, she was the daughter of the late Clinton Ernest and Barbara Elizabeth McKinney Runyan.
Catherine was a longtime member of the Perryville United Methodist Church, the United Methodist Women, and worked for many years with the "kitchen crew" serving funeral and other related dinners at the church.
She was a member of both the Lady Rebakah (W. Freedom) and American Legion Auxiliary (Perryville) when both organizations were in existance.
Surviving are her husband, Ivan Shay whom she married in 1942;  two children:  Carol Ann Shay and David Lee Shay, both at home;  also a number of nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters and seven brothers, leaving her to be the last surviving member of her family.
Friends called on Thursday, August 12, 2010 at H. Jack Buzard Funeral Home, 201 S. Wayne Ave., Parker.  Funeral services were held at 11:00 AM Friday in the Perryville United Methodist Church with Rev. Ken Hughes officiating.  Interment was in Perryville Cemetery.
