Double Drivel 9-28-10 issue

Dick’s Thoughts- Before the Pitt football season began their television push to sell tickets showed the Panthers running through the city.  After 3 games Pitt might want to do a remake of the commercial using the same theme but the players doing a few things differently.  Some of the players could be chased by the police as getting in trouble has become alarmingly common, some of the players could be on crutches as quarter by quarter the injury list gets longer, some of the players could just be walking as it appears a few like to take plays off now and then, and a few of the players could make wrong turns as it seems the direction of the team is in question.  Dave Wannstedt seems to be as nice of a guy as there is and he is a tremendous ambassador for the  school, but his coaching record at all levels has been questioned and if this team does not turn it around SOON, Dave might be asked to move on.
As the Pirates season mercifully ends, it is probably time to say good bye to a few of our Bucs.  I doubt we see Andy LaRoche or Zach Duke or Lastings Milledge back in the black and gold.  Ryan Doumit will be gone if anyone wants him also.  Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports is already saying the Pirates will lose 100 games NEXT year.  Going into next year the Pirates appear to have James McDonald, Ross Olendorf, and Paul Maholm as starting pitchers, not quite Maddox, Glavine, and Smoltz.  There is not much on the free agent pitching market and we all know the Bucs are not going to spend much money either.
Pitt basketball will get a ton of exposure this year.  The Panthers will play 2 nationally televised games on CBS and 14 games on ESPN.  4 of the ESPN games are on Big Monday.  The Panthers open their season November 8.
Hard to believe that it has been 10 years since the last Pitt/Penn State football game.  Who could forget the Panthers 12-0 win over the Nits at 3 Rivers Stadium.  Too bad Joe may go to his grave with that memory.
Nick Sheehan of New Wilmington recently recorded a hole in one at Foxburg Country Club.  He aced the 8th hole using a pitching wedge.  Witnessing the El Perfecto were Joe Sheehan, Rick Murtaugh, and Dave Attenberger.
Thought of the week:  Why isn’t 11 pronounced onety one?
Dick’s Picks
KEYSTONE @ AC VALLEY:  A pretty good basketball rivaly, but not much of one in football.  The Panthers have had the edge the past few years and I see it continuing.  Keystone 27 AC Valley 12
Punxsutawney @ KARNS CITY:  SHOWDOWN time.  Last years top dogs square off.  The power might be shifting out I-80 but for tonight I see KC winning a classic.  KC 21 Punxsy 20
MONITEAU @ St Marys:  A long bus trip for the Warriors.  The injury bug has hit MHS and tonight the Dutch hit also.  St Marys  20  Moniteau 13.
Clarion  Limestone @ UNION:  If the Golden Knights can slow down the pass happy Lions it will be a big night in Rimersburg.  Archway cookies for all Union 26 CL 20
Florida International @ PITT:  FIU has given Rutgers and Texas A&M all they wanted.  Unfortunately for them, they will meet the same fate against Pitt.  Pitt 14 Fla Int 13
PENN STATE @ Iowa:  Hawkeyes have dominated PSU in recent years.  Joe might have wished the plane stopped in Youngstown instead of Iowa City.  Iowa 24 Penn State 20
Baltimore @ STEELERS:   Maybe the 2 best defenses in the NFL.  Who knows who will be the quarterback for the Steelers in this one, but they still might be better than Flacco.  Steelers 3 Ravens 2
