Dorothy Smith


Dorothy Smith, 92 of Sugarcreek Twp, formerly of Queenstown died Friday January 15, 2016.
Born February 26, 1923 in New Ferry, Cheshire, England, she was the daughter of Thomas S. and Mary (Price) Horswell.
On November 10, 1945 Dorothy married Kenneth L. Smith. He preceded her in death on March 22, 1994.
Dorothy worked in Port Sunlight, England for 10 years for Lever Brothers manufacturing soap. After coming to America, Dorothy proudly became an American citizen in 1958.
Dorothy loved music, mystery movies and enjoyed sending cards and letters to loved ones.

The Beatles Tribute Band performed this concert to benefit the Emlenton Volunteer Fire Department and the sound and light system fund for the Crawford Center.

The Progress News says, "thank you" to the Beatles Tribute Band, for coming to Emlenton and performing such a quality concert.

A-C Valley Girls Win School’s First KSAC Volleyball Championship

The A-C Valley Girls Volleyball team soared to new heights this year and made history on the way. The AC girls won the school’s first ever KSAC Volleyball Championship going undefeated with an 11-0 record. This championship was the first KSAC title won by an AC Valley girls team since 1989. The girls also captured their own tournament and one hosted by Brockway.

Two Emlenton residents and A-C Valley Students, Maddie Morrison and Jonah Powell received Jr. Council member awards from the Pennsylvania State Association of Boroughs.

Chicora Man and Vietnam War Veteran Named Butler County’s Veteran of the Year

The Honored Veteran of the year for Butler County is Robert Ripper of Fairview Township. He is to be honored at the Veteran of the Year luncheon on 14 Nov 15 at American Legion Post 778 in Lyndora. He will participate in the annual Veterans Day Events in Butler and surrounding area.
He said he is happy to be honored and wishes to thanks those that help him get this honor. “It was a total surprise,” Ripper, 69, said, and that there are many other people out there who deserve the honor as well.

Sustainability Plan for Oil Region is Topic for Tuesday Public Meeting in Oil City

The Oil Region National Heritage Area was designated in 2004 by Congress; its territory includes Venango and eastern Crawford County. The non-profit Oil Region Alliance of Business, Industry and Tourism administers the National Heritage Area. Looking ahead for the next ten years, a study is underway to identify major strategies for sustainability as defined by the National Park Service.
