Option allows new hunters to complete Hunter-Trapper Education anywhere, anytime. Many first-time buyers of Pennsylvania hunting or furtaker licenses have a new, convenient option for completing the required certification course. A new, online-only Hunter-Trapper Education course is available from the Pennsylvania Game Commission. The course, which can be completed online in about six to eight hours, is available to students ages 16 and older.

The Diocese of Erie was disappointed by the opinion issued last week, February 11, 2015. in the cases the Erie and Pittsburgh dioceses had brought against the government under the Religious Freedom Restoration Act in the United States Court of Appeals. At issue was whether the dioceses—which are exempt from the provisions of the Affordable Care Act requiring employers to provide health insurance coverage for products and services against its teachings—can be considered separate from the nonprofit charitable and educational organizations they sponsor.

  We changed things up this year. We had preregistration available until February 2nd through by mail.Only 12 teams had pre-registered, by then which concerned us. The concern was would we have enough entrants the day of. Well, to our surprise we had 31 additional teams register by 8 AM the day of the tournament which brought the total number of teams to 43, which exceeded last year’s total of 33.

A-C Valley Varsity Cheer Squad

The Allegheny-Clarion Valley Varsity Cheer Squad was awarded the title of District IX Champions at the Competitive Spirit Competition held on January 10th at the Dubois Jr./Sr. High School. This earned them the opportunity to proudly represent the top seed for District IX in the PIAA State Cheer Championship. The State Championship will be held on January 23rd & 24th at the Giant Center in Hershey, PA.

After a successful pilot run in 2014, the Pennsylvania Game Commission today launched its new live stream from a bald-eagle nest, hopefully just in time for viewers to see the laying of the nesting pair’s first egg.

PennDOT Reduces Speed Limits on Several Area Roadways
Due to the severity of the winter storm, PennDOT is temporarily reducing the speed limit on several roadways in northwest Pennsylvania.
PennDOT is urging motorists to avoid unnecessary travel but those who must head out will see speeds reduced to 45 mph on the following highways:
Interstate 90,
Interstate 79,
and Interstate 80.

William H. “Bill” Philips


William H. “Bill” Philips, 91, a retired Knox businessman, formerly of Knox and St. Petersburg, died Monday afternoon, January 5, 2015 at Clarion Hospital.
Born in 1923 in Pittsburgh, Bill was the son of the late Grant and Mary Walther Philips.
