7th Annual Oil Country Bluegrass Festival to be held in Oil City on February 21, 22 and 23rd


The Oil City Arts and Culture Commission and CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) of Venango County, Inc. are again teaming to host what will be Oil City’s 7th Annual Oil Country Bluegrass Festival.  This annual event will be held on February 21, 22 and 23, 2014 at the Days Inn located at 1 Seneca Street in Oil City, PA.  All proceeds will benefit the sponsoring non-profit organizations.

Local Inspirational Country Music artist Isaac Cole will be doing a live interview on a world wide Internet Radio station that plays Inspirational Country Music 24/7/365! The interview will be on Wednesday, February 5th at 9 am.

Isaac will be promoting his new 5 song EP that he collaborated with and wrote with some of the best song writers in Inspirational Country Music, including local song writer Von McCommons.

The Farmers National Bank of Emlenton recently donated $8,270 to United Way of Venango County in support of their annual fundraising campaign for 2014.

Accepting the donation on behalf of United Way of Venango County was Jane Klinger, Executive Director. Representing the Farmers National Bank of Emlenton were Scott Patton, Regional Manager and Michelle Hartle, Branch Manager of the Cranberry office.

Men's Prayer Breakfast


February will bring two great messages to the men and women who gather the FIRST and THIRD Wednesday of each month at the Emlenton Plaza for the 6:30 AM Prayer Breakfast. This Prayer Breakfast is open to the public, and most gather before 6:00 AM to eat their breakfast and enjoy a period of fellowship.  We average fifteen participants, so obviously there is room for many more.

Cub Scout Pack 55 Holds Annual Pine Wood Derby

On Saturday, January 25, 2014 Cub Scout Pack 55 in Ninevah, came together for the running of the annual Pinewood Derby. The boys of the Pack provided 50 unique and fast cars to race. Judges had been invited in to help judge the most original, scout theme, and Judges Choice. The judges were John Mason, Will Barris, Dwayne VanTassel, Craig Byers and Scott Henry. At the end of the day the following boys were presented certificates for their accomplishments and will receive their trophies at the Pack’s Blue & Gold Dinner in March.

Snow Bales - A Rare Meteorological Phenomena - Seen Throughout The Area

Local area is full of snow-bales. This is one of the rarest meteorological phenomena because a lot of unusual conditions should occur simultaneously. If you spotted these snow-bales you can consider yourself lucky. These are known as Snow-Rollers, Snow-Bales or Snow-Doughnuts and they are just what these names suggest. Self-rolling large snowballs formed naturally as chunks of snow are blown along the ground by wind, picking up material along the way, in much the same way that the large snowballs used in snowmen are made.

Local School Board Director Honored

David McDeavitt presents Bob McGinnis with plaque for his years of service on school board.

Long-term school directors are being honored across the state by the Pennsylvania School Board Association at local school board meeting. School directors are recognized for years of service ranging from 8 to 52 years.

Robert McGinnis, a member of the Allegheny-Clarion Valley School Board, received recognition for 24 years of services. He was presented a plaque adding him to the PSBA "Honor Roll of School Board Service".

Panther Wrestlers Place at North East

Chad Rogers, 3rd Place

Keystone wrestlers traveled to Erie on January 17th for a two-day tournament at North East High School. Two of the Panthers placed in their weight classes, one of whom made it to the consolation finals.

Chad Rogers (145) went 5-1, and earned 3rd place. Tyler Beal (220) finished the tournament in sixth place after reaching the semi-finals.

Evan Slater of A-C Valley (160) went 2-2 for the Panthers, one match short of placing in his class.
