With eight games left in the 2021-2022 season, the Moniteau boys’ basketball team looks to string a couple of wins together to build some momentum. The Warriors are currently 3-10 on the season.

The Warriors first three games of the season have pretty much exemplified how their season has progressed. With a 1-2 start, the Warriors under head coach Mike Jewart easily could have been 3-0. But finding a way to finish seems to be their achilles heal.

The Warriors opened the season at home with a 59-50 setback against Clarion Limestone. In that contest, Moniteau was led in scoring by sr., Kyle Pry and 6-1" jr., Colton Thomas with 12 points each. Pry and Thomas completed the double-double by hauling down 10 and 11 rebounds respectively.

The Warriors built a 15 point lead at Keystone heading into the fourth quarter only to see their lead dissolve in the quarter. Sr., Kyle Pry again led the team in scoring with 12 points. So., Chason Delorosa-Rugg chipped in with nine points from beyond the arc.

The Warriors would bounce back a couple nights later with a 67-21 trouncing of Cranberry area to start the season 1-2. Kyle Pry netted 19 pts, Ryan Jewart 17 points and Dave Dessicino chipping in with 13 points and 10 rebounds.

The Warriors have shown the ability to both build a lead and fight their way back. The Warriors found themselves down 13 against rival Karns City and battled back to get within one at 25-44. In the game Karns City used a series of runs 13-0 and 16-5 to keep the Warriors at bay. Sr., Ryan Jewart connected on (4) 3’s to lead the Warriors in scoring with 14. In some nice play off the bench 6-3" Jr. Dave Dessicino chipped in with 11.

With the Warriors on a six game slide they picked up a much needed win against Venango Catholic on January 19th. In the 62-36 win, four players hit double figures. ( Colton Thomas 10 pts, 10 rbs; David Dessicino 12 pts; Ryan Jewart 12 pts; Kyle Pry 10 pts.)

The Warriors were poised to make it two in a row but the game against Forest area was postponed.

The Warriors showed a strong performance in a loss against North Clarion at home in a back and forth contest. (77-68). Kyle Pry was the top scorer for Moniteau with a season high 24 points and Chason Delarosa-Rugg chipped in with 17 points and 5 assists. Ryan Jewart bucketed 14 points and collected 9 caroms.

To close out January, Moniteau added to the win column with a 49-44 road win at St. Mary’s to notch their third win.

The Warriors again showed some resiliency in a close 66-63 setback to Clarion Limestone. The Warriors battled from eight down to cut the lead to two (65-63) as they went on an 8-0 run with three minutes left in the contest to close the gap. Moniteau had a chance to tie the contest on the last possession but a costly turnover was the difference.
