Karns City High School Boys Baseball Team
Head Coach Josh Smith begins the 2021 season with a lot of youth on his side. With only two seniors on this year’s team, Smith will look to develop his players with game time experience.
Thus far this season the young Gremlins are off to a 4-3 start and are currently 2-2 in KSAC play.
Offensively the team has been led by sophomore, Mallick Metcalfe who as of press time is batting at a .600 clip. Metcalfe has 12 hits in 20 plate appearances. In a come from behind win against A-C Valley he collected three rbi’s as the Gremlins scored five runs in the top of the seventh to take an early season win.
Jr., Zack Blair helped the cause in the contest by blasting a 2 run homer to seal the victory. Blair currently has six hits to go along with six rbi’s on the season. Blair sports a .300 avg. at the plate.
Supplementing Metcalfe offensively is 5’-8" Jr.. Cole Sherwin. Sherwin is 8-19 and batting a solid .421.
Carrying the work load on the mound for coach Smith has been the appearances of Cole Sherwin and Mallick Metcalfe. Metcalfe is currently 3-0 with 15 strikeouts and a 3.23 era in five appearances.
Sherwin leads the team in the strike out column with 17 K’s in 17 innings of work. Sherwin has a 4.36 era. Mike Neff, a 6’-0" sophomore also has some work on the mound with six innings under his belt.
The Gremlins are currently batting .289 as a team.
The Gremlins have been competitive in every game and look to improve as the season develops.

Assisting head coach Smith are David McElroy, Travis Trimbur and Troy Zediker
