2021 Lady Warrior Softball Team

Head coach Bob Rottman has plenty to be optimistic about as his Lady Warriors head into the final stretch of the regular season. Due to depth, his toughest decision just might be who to put on the field. The Lady Warriors are currently 8-3 overall and 5-1 in KSAC league play.

“We have good senior leadership, three girls who lost a junior season are making the most of their senior year. We also have a ton of depth. We have a lot of quality ball players who share time because they all work hard and deserve time on the field. It certainly makes it tough when figuring out the lineup but having been on the other side of that it is a nice problem to have. We have played 11games thus far and I have probably used 11 different lineups.”

Coach Rottman will look to the guidance of key returning players in Jr., Courtney Stewart (P, Inf., OF) and Sr.’s Taylor Schultz (Inf.,OF.) and Abby Rottman (S.S, C).

Presently, Stewart leads the team in batting avg. (.632), hits (24) and homeruns (4). Stewart also has been the ace on the mound with six wins, 77 strike outs and five complete games.

So., Emma Covert (1B, P) has also seen action on the mound. Covert is 1-0 with 8 strike outs and has recorded a complete game against Brockway for the Lady Warriors.

Fr., Katie Parenti (1B,P) has also made an appearance in some relief work.

Offensively as a team, the lady warriors are batting.466. Sr., Abby Rottman leads the team in rbi (27), 3b(3), 2b(8), OBP (.643) and slugging percentage. Rottman is 2nd on the team in batting avg. with a .622 clip.

Contributing to the success thus far this season has been the play of Emma Covert, Emily Staab, Brianna Rottman, Rylee Hoffman, Destiny Travis, Harley Anderson, Mariska Shunk, Katie Parenti, Brynne Barger, Megan Wise, Addy Williams, Taylor Thomas, Ashley Huffman, Grace Thurner.

Freshman, Emily Staab has garnered 16 hits with a .485 batting avg. Staab also has manufactured six doubles and 6 rbi on the season so far.

The Lady Warriors like to swing the bat. Currently the lineup comes to the plate with five girls batting over .500 and a handful batting over .400. The Lady Warriors have a stout run differential of 127-58.

In a recent win over Clarion -Limestone in a close 6-3 victory, the Lady Warriors punched out a twelve hit performance with five going for doubles. Emma Covert led the way going 4-4 with three doubles to up the Lady Warrior record to 8-3 on the season.

The Lady Warriors only losses have come to Slippery Rock (6-4); Laurel (6-3) and Karns City in their only lopsided loss (16-4). The Lady Warriors will get another crack at the Lady Gremlins this Wednesday, May 12th as they host Karns City at the swamp.

Other upcoming games for the Lady Warriors include:

May 10th at home vs. West Forest; May 17th at home vs. West Middlesex an away game on May 19th at Clarion and the final of the season on May 21st at home vs. Keystone.

As the Lady Warriors head towards the playoffs, coach Rottman would like to see his team to continue to work hard. “We need to improve on the “team first” mentality and take things one game at a time. We need to stay focused at practice and continue to improve. Our goals going into the season were to continue to improve and play our best game every game. Hopefully if we continue to do this we will be competing for a trophy at the end of the year.”

Head coach Rottman is assisted by Amanda Minor, Gary Stewart, Mike Barger and Rebecca Roesch.
