Chicora Borough held their seventh annual Chicora Light-Up Night on Sunday, November 29, 2020. This year’s Light-Up Night was a scaled-down event because of COVID-19. Father Matt McClain, of Mater Dolorosa Church, blessed the tree. Mya Johnston, of Chicora, lighted the tree.
The Spirit of Community Award recipients this year were Dan and Karen Mortland. Mr. and Mrs. Mortland have been a huge part of renovating and beautifying Chicora. They have renovated houses, the old Lutheran Church, and placed a gazebo on the property in the center of the borough. They also were instrumental in the renovations to the Honor Roll. They helped with the design, fencing, and landscaping. Dan has served on Borough Council. While on council, he and his son implemented the borough’s website – www.chicorapa .org. Dan and Karen helped to retain the beautiful chimes in the borough. They also purchased a new computer system for the chimes, and they maintain the timer and musical selections.
Thank you to Mr. and Mrs. Mortland for all that you have done and continue to do for Chicora Borough.
Next year’s Chicora Light-Up Night will be held Sunday, November 28, 2021.
