A New Salon Opens in Knox . . .

Couture, A Misti Lockhart Salon

Misti grew in up in Siverly, an old oil well town in Oil City. She moved to Knox two years ago and she adores the small town and couldn’t be more pleased to open her business in Knox. She says that she is humbled by the open-arm welcome from the community, even from the long time barber, Larry Lewis.

She has had residents of the Knox community stopping into the salon with flowers from their gardens. She has also had a few people from the community notice that she puts in some rather long days, and brought her supper and gift certificates for local dining to make sure she is eating. She assures us that she is eating. She is just over joyed and taken aback some by the Knox community. She says thank you for the warm welcome and wishes.

She says she is unsure if she choose Knox to start her business or if Knox choose her. The idea just came to her one Sunday morning as she was walking. She puts many miles under her feet in Knox. She says she was walking one Sunday morning and noticed a “For Rent” sign in the store front of 512 Main Street. After speaking with Ron Best, the owner, it was clear to her that God planted her here.

She refurbished the store front and the entire renovation of the space took seven weeks. The rather tricky part of the experience was navigating the PA Department of State in the midst of the pandemic. The Department of State was closed. There was no calling and waiting to speak with representatives. Each step of the application process was done by email.

The salon has two work stations, and there is plenty of room to grow at 512 Main.

Misti has been in the industry for 20 years and has formed relationships with educators up and down the east coast. She is a color specialist, and is merging into an “educator” as part of her career. She has worked with some of the best of the best in the industry, such as Jason Clemons. Clemons is a Paul Mitchell focus salon educator out of NY City, an amazing hair cutting educator. She has worked hand-in-hand with Beth Minardi, a hair color chemist and stylist out of NY City. Beth was the chemist for Redkin color for many years before marketing her own high end brand of hair-color.

Misti says she will close the salon from time to time to host educators and/or to host education workshops. Workshops are when stylists practice their craft to bring the public the very latest in high end color trends and cutting edge haircuts.

Couture is a full service hair salon for men and woman. Hair cutting, high end color services, permanent texture services (perms), hair extensions, and waxing are a few of the services available at Couture.

Misti officially opened her salon on Tuesday, July 28, 2020. Jan Beichner was her first guest. She has been doing Jan’s color and haircuts for a few years now.

The official name of the salon is, “Couture, A Misti Lockhart Salon” Misti explains the name Couture. She named it Couture because couture means, “Created just for you”.

The salon is located at 512 Main Street, Knox, PA, with appointment hours from 8:30 AM to ? She is closed on Sunday, Wednesday and every other Monday. The salon phone number is, 814 992 2208.

Misti uses a series of four color lines for all of her guest’s hair coloring needs. All of her guest seating is made in America, thanks to Minerva beauty systems. Her hair styling line is EVO. EVO is the elite of hairstyling products. As Misti would say, “Made in the good old United States of America”.  It is important to her that all the products she uses and sells are manufactured in the United States.

She has a Facebook page and encourages you to like the page.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Misti did a virtual grand-opening. The PA Department of Health has 54 pages of COVID-19 protocol. She was in able to host a grand opening, open house. And was humbled that 6k people watched to grand opening via FB. Misti had no idea she would reach so many folks.

At her Grand Opening Event she gave away some hair makeovers. Julie Shreffler of Knox won the hair make over! She and her daughter Chloe spent an evening at the salon. Misti made it a point to mention that Chloe “must be after her heart”. She just entered the 7th grade at Keystone Jr/Sr High School. She has known Chloe’s family for many years as they have volunteered their time together at Skate Capital and have spent many weekends together. She says that Chloe arrived at the salon in a red dress trimmed with gold jewelry and shoes. She asked Chloe if she dressed to the 9’s every day. Her response melted her heart. She said, no. I was just so happy to have somewhere to go today. For Misti this hit home, she thought, “How all of these kids have been affected by the pandemic” As she was blow drying Chloe’s hair and brought it to life, she said, “this kid was beaming”. Chloe’s emotions made all of the 12/16 hour days, worthwhile.

Misti also did a hair make over contest for the kids. She had them get up, and get outside, with parent permission, and had the kids get together friends and family, get creative and send her a video telling her why they think they deserve a hair make over. The winners of the contest were the Tharan kids. Misti arranged some cool back-to-school prizes and some crafts to do in the salon while they took turns getting fixed up for school.

f you notice the paper chains in my storefront windows, they were made by the kids.

COVID protocol: The salon is run by appointment only at this point. Walk-ins are welcome to stop in to have consults scheduled and appointments scheduled. One important factor Misti wishes for all of her guests to know, and that is; if you call during business hours, and she does not answer the phone, please leave a brief message and phone number. Misti does not excuse herself from guests while they are in her chair to answer the phone. Her guests deserve her full attention during visits.

If you have questions, comments, ideas, please feel free to reach out to Misti. Consultations are always on the house when discussing new hair goals.
