Come enjoy a nice horse drawn carriage ride as the Christmas season kicks off in Chicora.
Chicora’s Light-Up Night, Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree
Set for This Weekend November 27th
The 8th annual Light-Up Night event will take place on Sunday, November 28, 2021. West Slippery Rock Street in Chicora Borough will be closed for the day.
The Candy Cane Crawl and Pooch Parade will kick off the event at 2:00 P.M. Pooches and owners dressed in holiday attire, will participate in a short, marked race through town. Prizes will be awarded for the pets Holiday Spirit, Best Pet/Owner Look Alike Costumes, and Judges’ Choice. Proceeds from the walk will be presented to the Karns City Regional Ambulance Service for their dedication and service to the community.
The main event will begin at 4:00 P.M. The street will be filled with Christmas cheer and vendors. Local entertainers will take stage at the Chicora Post Office parking lot. The Spirit of Community Award will be presented to a member of the community that has dedicated their time and efforts to the service of the Chicora Community.
The Chicora Volunteer Fire Department will host a bon-fire and have s’mores for event-goers. Carriage rides will be available through the streets of Chicora. The Grinch and Mario will be roaming the streets greeting children along the way.
Of course, Santa will be there to hear the requests of children from all over, while posing for an annual Santa photo. An added feature this year will be a caricaturist. He will be in the Chicora Moose drawing pictures of people for a small fee.
The Syria Shriner Clowns will be at the American Legion again this year to entertain the children with their funny antics and balloon animals. There will also be lots of food to enjoy that evening.
Stop in at the American Legion for Pizza Joe’s pizza. The Chicora Firehall will have multiple vendors selling food, along with August Falls Winery. Bella’s Sweets will also be at Light-Up Night selling their delicious cupcakes, and Boham Raspberry will be selling cookies, donuts, hot chocolate, hot tea, coffee, and popcorn. The events for the night will end with a candlelight procession to the Christmas tree where Pastor Lewis of the Chicora United Methodist Church will bless the tree.
Slippery Rock Street will be closed to traffic that day, beginning at 10:00 A.M. and will reopen at 9:00 P.M.
Local business donations and Light-Up Night t-shirt and commemorative coaster sales fund this event.
