Following the concert, Meet the Artist at the Wine & Cheese reception from 4 to 6 PM at the Red Brick Gallery and Gift Shop for the opening of the Cooperative Artists’ Holiday Art Show and Exhibit. The exhibit features original, high quality, artisan-made gifts created by RBG Cooperative Member Artists: Sterling silver, gemstone and costume jewelry; hand woven scarves, placemats and rugs; as well as pottery, hand turned wooden vases, rustic wooden tables, wearable art, hand-made baskets, oil and watercolor paintings, pencil drawings, fine art photography, and greeting cards.
The stunning Svetlana Smolina has been hailed for being “Simply flawless” (Toronto Performing Arts Examiner) and “a true miracle”, producing “dazzling effects”, and has performed with orchestras and in recitals and chamber music worldwide.
Notable appearances include the Mariinsky Orchestra at Carnegie Hall, New York Philharmonic at Avery Fisher, Pittsburgh Symphony, St. Petersburg Philharmonic, Orchestra National de France, Dublin Philharmonic, South Florida Symphony, Odessa and Nizhny Novgorod Philharmonic, New Florida Philharmonic, Shreveport Symphony and New York Chamber Orchestra.
A frequent guest at festivals worldwide, Ms. Smolina has performed at the Salzburg Festival, Hollywood Bowl, Ravinia Rising Stars, White Nights, Maggio Musicale, Mikkeli, Ruhr, Moscow Easter, Rotterdam Phillips Gergiev, International Gilmore, among others.
She also has performed at the Royal Covent Garden Opera, Mariinsky 3 Concert Hall, Tchaikovsky Moscow Conservatory, Mozarteum, Merkin Hall, Kravis Center, NJPAC, Grand Artists Series in Tel-Aviv, Academia Santa Cecilia in Rome, Corfu Festival in Greece, New Names and D. Sakharov Festival in Russia.
Recent recordings include Stravinsky’s Les Noces (Valery Gergiev, conductor on Decca/Phillips and on Mariinsky Label which received the ICMA award).
She has a recording of solo Chopin for the Chopin iTunes Project, Benjamin Britten Young Apollo live recording from Walt Disney Hall for BCM+D record, a Scriabin CD on Pentatone Oxingale Records and many broadcasts for NPR, WQXR New York, BBC, PBS, RAI, Kultura TV and other networks.
Svetlana is a Visiting Professor at the London Performing Academy of Music and has been appointed Piano Program Director at the Piano Conservatory, European Academy of Fine Arts. During recent tours in China and Singapore, among others, Svetlana has given masterclasses for students.
Mrs. Smolina studied at Indiana University with Professor Alexander Toradze, joining his famed Toradze Piano Studio; at the Balakirev Music College with Natalia Fish, at Oberlin Conservatory with Monique Duphil, at the Brussels Royal Conservatory with Eugeny Mogilevsky and at the University of Michigan with Arthur Greene where she received her DMA.
