This past November, Dennis Porter of Parker was diagnosed with Stage 3 pancreatic cancer and was given 6–18 months with chemo, and only a 20 percent chance that the cancer could be shrunk. He began chemo in December but, unfortunately, after only 2 rounds, he developed pneumonia with sepsis. On January 7th we were advised that he was too weak to continue with treatment and that the only thing that they could do for him was to make him as comfortable as possible. On January 9th he was transferred to Clarview Nursing Home in Sligo where he died 5 days later.
Dennis and his brother Vaughn, Master Carpenters and owners of Pine Ridge Contracting, worked in their early careers during the 1970s and 1980s in Virginia and West Virginia. They then returned home and, for the past 30 years, performed new home construction and major remodeling of homes in the local area. They have donated their time when someone was in need and now it’s time to show them the same support.
Dennis is need of our help to cover his final expenses. A benefit for Dennis will be held at the Parker Fire Hall on S. Wayne Ave on Sunday, February 9th, from noon - 6:00 p.m. The benefit will include a spaghetti dinner, gun raffle, 50/50 drawing, other raffles, and a Chinese auction. We are requesting food, merchandise, gift cards, gift baskets, etc., for the benefit. Monetary donations are always welcome. Anything you could offer would be greatly appreciated.
The Parker Volunteer Fire Department and Ladies Auxiliary members have offered their services for this fundraiser. If you are able to help in any way, please call Marilyn McCall (sister) at 814-609-6532.
