Easter Meals for East Brady Residents

Folks living in the Allegheny Hills Apartments who have been quarantined and unable to see their families have been “down in the dumps” as Tracy Barnhart Sheakly stated on her Facebook page a few weeks ago. The post was noticed by Luanne McAnallen of the All Stars Bar and Restaurant and contacted Tracy about the post and asked if it would be possible to brighten the resident’s day by making Easter dinners and delivering them to their doors on Easter Sunday? Tracey was very excited about the idea and said that would be “Amazing”, and agreed to it right away. With that, Luanne started making calls to Renee (Nay) Patton at the St. Cloud and the American Legion Auxiliary (Brady’s Bend), Jeannie Livengood to see if they would help with the cooking and delivery and without hesitation they all said yes! The idea grew to include the residents at the East Brady Riverview Apartments, aka “low rise”, and the veterans at the Mechling-Shakley Veterans Center. By the time they were done they cooked and delivered 130 ham and scalloped potato dinners with all the fixn’s and made 130 Easter Baskets. All the recipients of the dinners were very thankful and said how nice it was of everyone to do this for them. The act of kindness grew into a community affair. Donations of food and money came from many of the community leaders and businesses of East Brady. “It was overwhelming,” stated McAnallen, “Everyone responded in such a positive way. We are very grateful for everyone’s help and donations.” She continued, “With all the cooks at All Stars, Danielle Brink, Rod Johnstown and Danny Perry, we are used to cooking for many people, and with the additional help from Renee Patton of the St. Cloud and the American Legion, Jeannie & Lenny Livengood, the meals were prepared without a hitch. We were also fortunate to have the help of Rachel & Missy at the Old Bank Deli, Jeannie Livengood, Pat Ekas and Diane Bly who baked cookies.” Others responsible for donations included monetary and supply donations came from the East Brady Riverfest Committee for Easter Baskets/grass and candy; homemade Easter cards were made by the children of Old Bank Deli Owners. Monetary donations came from: J & K’s (Joe & Karen Hillwig); Sheriff Bill Rupert, Buechele Funeral Home (Jenna Buechele Rupert), George’s Coin Op (Bake & Jane Wagner), Unimart, employees of East Brady’s Farmers National Bank, Rocky’s Pizza, Bracken’s Pharmacy, River Road Beverage, Sheakley’s Custom Exhaust, Old Bank Deli, Deb Maley, Ronald Gaulet and a few anonymous donations. Food donations came from All Stars, the St. Cloud and food vendors; and the deliveries were made by Luanne McAnallen, Danielle Brink, Jeannie Livengood, Lenny Livengood, Kathy Montgomery.
