Janice H. Milks

Janice H. Milks, 80, of St. Petersburg, went to be with the Lord at 7:00 a.m. Friday morning, November 6, 2020 in the comfort of her home following a two year battle with A.L.S.

Janice was born in Alum Rock, Richland Twp., Clarion County on October 14, 1940. She was the daughter of the late Darius and Madelin Heeter Ditty.

She attended school in St. Petersburg and graduated in 1958 from Emlenton High School. In her earlier years, she had been employed as a lab technician at Bradford Hospital. Janice enjoyed gardening and planting flowers and had earned a Master Gardener Certificate from Penn State University. She was a homemaker and had a strong work ethic. Janice was attending the Salem Reformed Church of Christ in Lamartine and had been a long time member of the Bethany Crossroads E.C. Church, near Emlenton, where she taught Sunday School, and had also taught at the former Community Christian School in Salem. She enjoyed playing the piano, singing, decorating, and artistic painting.

She is survived by her husband, Dale D. Milks, whom she married at the Reformed Church in St. Petersburg on September 23, 1961. Also surviving are four children, Scott E. Milks and his wife, Jeanette of New Bern, NC, Steven P. Milks of St. Petersburg, Tonja A. Sherman and her husband, Rodney, of Salem, and Brian D. Milks and his wife, Simona, of Knox; eleven grandchildren, two brothers, Homer “Sonny” Ditty of Georgia and William “Bill” Ditty and his wife, Mary, of El Paso, TX; three sisters, Madelin “Peg” Boots and her husband, Dave, of Hawaii, Doris Yeykal and her husband, John, of Utica, and Diane Pollock and her husband, Richard, of Butler; a sister-in-law, Valerie J. Charlton and her husband, Fred of Bradford, as well as a number of nieces, nephews, and cousins.

In addition to her parents, Janice was preceded in death by a sister, Effie Strauss

Friends will be received at the Hile Funeral Home Inc., 802 Grove St., St. Petersburg from 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. on Monday, November 9, 2020. A memorial service will follow at 1:00 p.m. from the funeral home with the Rev. Chris Lewis, pastor of the Salem Reformed United Church of Christ in Lamartine, officiating. Interment will be in St. Petersburg Cemetery.
