The 6th-grade lady Gremlins punched their ticket to the State Championship by taking second place in the North Allegheny state qualifying tournament in February. The State Championship will be held from March 18th thru the 20th at Penn State. This group of ladies is familiar with this type of play as they competed in last year’s PA Youth State Basketball Championship.

They’ve had their share of success this year by placing 1st and 2nd place in other tournament play. Even with the increased level of competition, they have only 2 losses during the season. They are hoping to continue that momentum into the State Championship. The team is made up of seven 6th graders and one 5th grader from Chicora and Sugarcreek Elementary. These young athletes bring the intensity and dedication that the game requires. The team is led by Ronda VanDyke, former KC basketball star and member of the 2000 State Championship Team, and Brian Cutway.

We wish this group of ladies and coaches the best of luck in the State Championship. You girls have represented our hometown well. GO KC!
