Lady Warriors Build on Team Chemistry

Coming into the 2019-2020 campaign head coach Dee Arblaster brings back the 10th leading scorer in District IX from a year ago in Sr., guard, Kristin Auvil.  Last year Auvil finished the season with 14.2 points per game and was the Lady Warriors top offensive threat from the outside.

As Coach Dee Arblaster knows it hard for one player to carry the load and to be successful,  the Lady Warriors will have to see development in their young squad. “We looked to go seven girls deep. They will get thrown into the fire. Our starters will have to be in pretty good shape until we can develop some more depth.”

Supplementing Auvil  (13.1 ppg) in the scoring department for this season has been the fine play of Aslyn Pry who currently averages just over 15 points per game. Pry lead the team and rebounding a year ago and has continued her dominance on the boards this year. In fact, Pry has recorded multiple double doubles in both scoring and rebounding. Joining both Pry and Auvil in the starting lineup thus far this season are 5’-4" Sr., guard, Haley Pry, 5’-6" Sr., guard, Kaitee Chesonis and 5’- 4", Jr., guard, Abby Rottman.  Sr., Haley Pry will be called upon to be the defensive leader as she usually draws that assignment against opposing teams top scorers. “Haley does a lot of good things for us,”, Arblaster said of Pry.

Over the past several games the Lady Warriors (9-10) have won four out of their last five games with wins over, Clarion, Venango Catholic, Forest and A-C Valley. The Lady Warriors showed  resilience in a 48-44 come from behind win against A-C Valley. The Warriors scored twenty points in the final frame to notch the win.  Aslyn Pry led the way with 17 points and 16 rebounds. Auvil and Haley Pry also netted 12 points in the win with Abby Rottman chipping in with 7 points.

The Lady Warriors overcame some adversity early in the season with four players out. “Abby Rottman took over as a starter in our fifth game of the year and has been a pleasant surprise for us. She is a gamer. We count on everyone who steps on the court to contribute and that is our key to  being successful”, commented Arblaster.

The Lady Warriors close out the season this week with a road game at Karns City on February 4th and the home finale on February 7th against Redbank. Come on out and show your support.

Coach Dee Arblaster is assisted by Maura Pry.
