Local Author Book Reading and Signing – Foxburg Free Library

Saturday, August 26, 2023

Author Rick Sheffer will be at the Foxburg Free Library from 5:30 to 7:00 PM on Saturday, August 26 to promote his book: Coming of Age in 1950s Rural Western Pennsylvania. (Book reading at 5:45.)

The book follows the author’s formative years growing up in Emlenton. Stop by to enjoy stories and nostalgia from our area’s past involving paper routes, baseball, pinball machines, hot dogs, the 5 & 10 store, dances, and dating.

A youthful fertile mind, interested in science, led to rocketry, homemade motors, crystal radios, moonshine, and motor scooters that provided a lifetime of memories.

The stories shared are sometimes funny, poignant, and often laced with mischief. Emlenton seemed to be magical, and those times now seem idyllic.

This book is about the time, the place, the people, and the events that formed his Coming of Age in the 1950s.

Rick Sheffer grew up in Emlenton, PA, and graduated from Allegheny Clarion Valley H.S., B.S. Clarion State College (1966) and earned an MBA from Michigan State University. After service in the U.S. Navy, Rick worked at Grafo Colloids Corp. in Emlenton and later formed the Sheffer Advertising Agency in South Bend, Indiana where he and his wife Ilene have lived in nearby Michigan for the past 52 years.

You’ve probably seen the book on display for sale at the Plaza Restaurant and at The Progress News.

Come and enjoy an evening at the Foxburg Free Library on Main St. in Foxburg, and get your signed copy of “Coming of Age”.
