Lois E. “Tootie” Cancilla


Mrs. Lois E. “Tootie” Cancilla, 92, a lifelong well-known Chicora resident, went to be with the Lord Wednesday evening, May 26, 2021 in the comfort of her home while surrounded by her loving family.

Lois was born in Chicora on March 17, 1929. She was the daughter of the late Enos Johnsand Ruth Byers Johns Kaylor.

Lois was an active member of the former English Lutheran Church in Chicora for many years. Tootie made a life out of helping others and sharing her kindness and compassion ­­with anyone she met.

Surviving are three daughters, Cheryl Haynes and her husband, Joseph, of Cheswick, Georgia Lydic of Seabring, FL, and Amy Stamm of Glade Hill, VA; a daughter-in-law, Sue Cancilla of Chicora; five grandchildren, Steven Lydic and his wife, Maria, Melanie Holzwarth and her husband, Joe, Jodi VanderSchaaff and her husband, James, Leah Schafer and her husband, Gordon, and Jennifer Stamm; five great grandchildren, Kimberly, Noah, Emy, Evelyn, and Sloane; a sister, Phyllis Shakley of Grove City; her dear aunt, Gertrude Flick of Chicora, as well as a number of nieces, nephews, and cousins.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Albert Cancilla, her son, David Cancilla, an infant daughter, and an infant great granddaughter, Madelyn VanderSchaaff.

A private funeral service will be held at the Hile Funeral Home of Chicora. Interment will be in Hemphill Cemetery, Chicora.
