3rd Place at PIAA State Championships Moniteau Competitive Spirit Cheer Team

at the GIANT Center in Hershey, PA

The Moniteau Competitive Cheer team has been busy.

After capturing their fourth consecutive District IX Competitive Spirit championship on January 8th the Moniteau Competitive Spirit team was already looking forward to their next challenge.

After a brief celebration, it was back to business as usual for this hard working group of girls; their focus, a state championship in Hershey, PA.

For Moniteau it has been about setting goals and achieving, striving to become the best. Winning a state championship, the exclamation point! With the District IX championship win, the Warriors would continue their quest in the PIAA state championships.

The state championships were held on January 28th and 29th at the GIANT Center in Hershey, PA.

The Moniteau Competitive Cheer Team returned from Hershey, PA last week after a fine showing. It was in fact their fourth trip in as many years; a testament and commitment to the building of their program. The warriors were looking to best their 9th place finish from a year ago.

The team’s preliminary score was good enough to bypass the semifinals and advance them straight into the finals.

In the finals, the Warriors knocked it out of the park with a zero deduction, perfect routine, and a final score of 85.3667. The score secured a third place state finish out of 30 teams across the state. Moniteau was edged out by Lansdale Catholic who took first and Richland who finished second.

In a community show of support, the team was greeted by the Marion Twp. Fire Department firetrucks which escorted the girls back to Full Out Tumbling Cheer. The girls were then greeted in the gym where the cheer boosters had decorated in a show of support on their accomplishment.

But the work does not stop for this committed group; next up is the National Cheer competition in Florida. The girls left on February 8th for Disney to compete in the 2022 National High School Cheerleading Championship. The girls will perform at the ESPN Wide World of Sports.

Members of the team include seniors: Shayla Nagy, Victoria DeMatteis, Kylee Surrena and Lexi Lasichak; juniors: Ashlynn Baptiste, Rylee Long, Molly Grossman; sophomores: Tori Burdick, Kelsey Stewart and Sammie Smith; freshman: Bella Hernandez and Alyssa McFadden.

Congratulations and best of luck to the Moniteau Competitive Cheer team as they compete for a National ranking.

Moniteau is coached by Melissa Dematteis, Kelly Kohlmeyer and Hannah Welter.
