Reconnect with the natural world through art! The Clarion County Arts Council (CCAC) and Clarion Conservation District (CCD) invite artists to enter a piece whose color is entirely added by using pigments created from local sources and made in the spirit of environmental awareness.
This is the culmination of a series of events intended to educate local artists and the community on abandoned mine drainage (AMD) pollution and treatment and how the resulting iron oxide pigments can be repurposed safely to create art. Artists are welcome to use additional natural pigments as long as it is created from local sources. The pieces will be displayed publicly at Michelle’s Cafe in Clarion, PA starting on Thursday, August 1st, 2024; just in time for the Clarion Summerfest event featuring “Art & Music” taking place that weekend.
Pieces must be dropped off by July 29th or 30th at Hillary’s Music & Art House ( 63 N 3rd Ave. Clarion, PA 16214) between 12:00pm-7:00pm. Space is limited, if your piece is larger than 24×24, please message first. Must be ages 15+ to enter. Need pigment? CCAC is happy to provide pigment made from iron oxide and the ash from local invasive species. Contact clarioncac@gmail.com.
Due to the lack of sponsor interest, there will be no judging or prizes unless sponsors are acquired. It will be an art display and artists will have the option to sell their work with a commission of 30%. If participants are able to assist in securing sponsorship, this may change.
