Petrolia to “Turn The Town Back to 1973”

Car Cruise, Live Music, Food & History

Petrolia, located in eastern Butler County is flanked by Bruin, PA to the north and Karns City to the south. The discovery of oil throughout the region in the late 1800’s brought prominence and the town flourished as a result. Many wildcatters from all over the country would settle in with the hopes of striking it rich. The town had once reached a population of close to 6,000 by the mid 1870’s. This Saturday, July 29th, Petrolia will celebrate it’s 150th anniversary as the town takes a look back over the years in a celebration of yesterday and today.

The days events will be featured by the opening of a time capsule that was buried fifty years ago in 1973. A ceremony of the opening of the time capsule and recognition of our older residents will be held at 4:00 PM.

The contents of the time capsule will be on display during the celebration. Come and see who was the “Queen” of the Centennial Celebration. It’s in the time capsule!

The day will feature a car show, food, games, vendors, basket raffle, t-shirts for sale, displays from our founding year, music, and an opportunity for folks to reconnect, visit and remember the “Good Old Days”. MC for the event will be Mark Lauer.

The Car Cruise will held from Noon to 4 pm. Come enjoy the sounds of the Dusty Roads band who will be performing as well as DJ Frank Kepple on the mic.

The town’s theme is “Turn The Town Back To 1973”. Play along if you like, and join the fun, and decorate your building or wear your favorite 1973 fashion.
