Public Hearing Set for May 4th to “Stop The Toll”

I-80 corridor in Clarion County.

On Tuesday, April 19, PennDOT and the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) began the online open house and 30-day comment period for the Canoe Creek Bridges on Interstate 80 in Clarion County. At this public comment event only 96 individuals showed up to the in-person open house.

It is imperative to make your voices and concerns heard to PennDOT and the Federal Highway Administration as they do this round of Environmental Assessments for the bridge projects.

There will be an in-person public hearing held on May 4, from 3:30-7 p.m. at the Wolf’s Den Banquet & Conference Facility located at 291 Timberwolf Run in Knox in Clarion County.

Comments may be submitted online at www.penndot.pa.gov/i80CanoeCreek until 11:59 p.m. on May 19, 2022. Comments can also be submitted by email at i80CanoeCreek@pa.gov or by mail at PennDOT District 10, Attn: I-80 Canoe Creek Bridges Project, 2550 Oakland Ave., Indiana, PA 15701-3388.

State Senator Scott E. Hutchinson has been a strong opponent against PennDOT’s P3 Bridge Tolling Initiative. “I strongly oppose the tolling plan and we’ve heard from a substantial number of citizens who also believe PennDOT should reevaluate the use of its current resources instead of imposing, what in essence, is just another tax on motorists”.

In February, the Wolf Administration and Pennsylvania Department of Transportation unveiled the Pennsylvania Public-Private Partnership (P3) Board’s approval of the Major Bridge P3 initiative that looks to toll nine bridges across the Commonwealth.
