Quilts of Valor Presentations
Quilt of Valor Presentations were held on Friday, November 6th and Monday, November 9th from 9 AM to noon each day. With social distancing in mind, the quilts were presented every 20 minutes.
Starting at 9 A.M. on Friday Nov. 6, Gary Smith was presented his Quilt of Valor (Q.O.V.) by Shirley Loose. Other receiving their Q.O.V. were Francis Posey, Bob Ripper, Larry Gifford, Charles Hetrick, David John (pictured above) Douglas King, Jack Burk and Gary Fennell.
The quilt presentation be gan again on Monday, November 9th with David Fleeger, then Donald Hershberger, John Cook, Bill Emmanuelson, Larry McCall, Ronald Kocian, Joseph Kocian, Paul McCue and Raymond Boyle. The Rivers Bend Quilt Guild awarded a total of 18 Q.O.V. during the two days.
The mission of the Quilts of Valor Foundation is to cover service members and veterans touched by war with comforting and healing Quilts of Valor.
The effort began by Blue Star mom, Catherine Roberts from her sewing room in Seaford, Delaware. Her son was the inspiration. He had a year-long deployment in Iraq. Catherine wanted to make sure that returning warriors were welcomed home with love and gratitude.
