at Nemacolin.
Fourteen year old Joe Rapp of Foxburg has been busy this summer. Rapp spends most of his summer days perfecting his passion, the game of golf. It is not uncommon for him to put in an eight hour day at the historic Foxburg Country Club course, which happens to be right in his own back yard. Yeah, you could say he lives there. Rapp’s time and work ethic on the course is starting to pay off.
Earlier this summer, Rapp had competed at the Butler Country Club in the “Drive, Chip and Putt” competition which advanced him to the sub regional qualifier at Nemacolin Woodlands in Farmington, PA. Each player is scored on their ability to “Drive, Chip and Putt”.
On Thursday, August 11th, Rapp captured first place honors at Nemacolin with an overall score of 131 in the Drive, Chip and Putt” competition. Rapp competed in the 14-15 yr. old division. The top honors qualified him for Regionals to be held at Oak Hill Country Club in Rochester, NY on September 18th. Oak Hill is recognized as one of the nicest courses in the country and is host of the 2023 PGA Championship. Placement at Oak Hill Country Club would mean a qualification to the prestigious Augusta National during the Masters in 2023.
“ I look forward to competing at Oak Hill Country Club in Rochester, NY and hope to be competing at Augusta in April 2023. I just want to get back to work now”, said Rapp.
