The mounting attack against the freedom of speech, expression, thought and association in America represents the most dangerous threat to our liberty and way of life since the founding of the American Republic in 1787. If this trend is allowed to continue, not only will we witness the demise of the freedoms aforementioned, but also the precious freedoms of peaceful assembly, the free exercise of religion and the right to keep and bear arms, to name just a few.
Those moving to suppress freedom in America must understand one thing. The inherent liberty of America and indeed all human kind is of no temporal origin. True liberty stems not from the intellect and pen of man, but from the breath and word of Almighty God.
Harry Truman, 33rd President of the United States spoke to this truth over 70 years ago: “The fundamental basis of this nation’s laws was given to Moses on the Mount. The fundamental basis of our Bill of Rights comes from the teachings we get from Exodus and Saint Matthew, from Isaiah and Saint Paul. If we don’t have a proper fundamental moral background, we will finally end up with a totalitarian government which does not believe in rights for anybody except the State!”
The time has come for the pulpits and churches of America to awaken from their spiritual slumber and heed the words of President Truman. The Judeo-Christian culture of religion and faith is the spiritual underpinning of our Declaration of Independence, our Constitution and the Bill of Rights. It is the very “DNA” of the American experiment in liberty, morality and law. To deny America’s Godly heritage is to embellish a paradigm of historical blindness and intellectual dishonesty.
Until the sovereign God of the universe shall determine otherwise, let us go forward and purpose to preserve a legacy of freedom, given to us by God and enshrined in the words of President Abraham Lincoln: “that this nation, under God, shall have a new birth of freedom . . . and that government of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from the earth.”
