Venango Area Community Gardens - Raised Beds

Community members may now sign up for a raised bed for the upcoming growing season through the Venango Area Community Gardens.

Raised beds are available for community groups, such as neighborhoods, churches, and nonprofits. The 4-by-4-foot beds are built by students in the Natural Resources Class at the Venango Technology Center (Vo-Tech). The raised beds are available for free to community groups, but the committee also plans to offer raised beds for individuals to purchase. More information is shared on Facebook or by contacting Warren Thomas. Raised beds with soil will be provided, but it is up to the groups to maintain it, including planting and weeding. Those who rent a garden will be required to attend an orientation prior to starting the garden and must follow a set of rules provided.

The Master Gardeners of the Venango County Penn State Extension will also be offering optional education classes throughout the year.

One class has already been scheduled for Tuesday, May 12, at 6 p.m. It will take place at the Vo-Tech Greenhouse and the topic is “Square Foot Gardening.” The greenhouse will be open during the class for attendees to shop for plant. “Like our tagline says, this is an opportunity for our community to ‘grow together,’” said Warren Thomas, Venango Area Community Gardens Committee Chair. “We’re excited to see the impact the program has made over the last few years, and we are looking forward to another great year of gardening.”

The deadline to request a raised bed is March 15 and forms can be found at www.tinyurl.com/VenangoGardens2020

The Venango Area Community Gardens is also a participant in the 2020 Week of Giving through Bridge Builders Community Foundations. Community members can make donations towards local funds and nonprofits at bbcfgives.org during the week of March 16 – 20.
