Young Lady Gremlins Earn Trip to State Qualifier

Karns City’s 4th grade girls basketball team is headed to the state title tournament.  They earned that right by taking 1st place, with a record of 4-0 in the North Allegheny State Qualifying tournament.  The tournament took place at North Allegheny Intermediate/High School on February 14th -16th.

Karns City competed against Butler Catholic, North Allegheny and Shaler, and came out a winner in all of those matches. They met North Allegheny again in the championship and battled hard to clinch the title. Karns City’s defense dominated North Allegheny, by holding them to seven points in their first match up and only six points in the championship.  North Allegheny pressured hard, but the Karns City girls determination and teamwork prevailed as they punched their ticket to their first ever state title tournament.  The tournament will take place March 20-22 in State College.

The team is lead by head coach Ronda VanDyke, a Karns City graduate and former KC basketball star.  Coincidentally,  Ronda was a starter on the Karns City Lady Gremlins State title team back in 2000.  She is now leading these young ladies back 20 years later as a coach.  “I’m very proud of these girls and their hardwork,” says Coach VanDyke.

We would like congratulate and wish these girls luck at the State title tournament.  We are all very proud of your accomplishment. GO KC!
