Barbara A. “Barb” Barnhart, 95, of Chicora, passed away peacefully while in the company of her family Tuesday Evening, October 6, 2026, at Butler Memorial Hospital.
Barbara was born in Karns City on June 17, 1931. She was the daughter of the late Arnold J. “Zeke” and Mildred M. “Mid” Boyer Hutchison.
Barb was a 1949 graduate of Chicora High School, and in her earlier years, she was employed at National Transit in Chicora and retired from the payroll department at Penreco in Karns City following 15 years of service. Barb looked forward to going to lunch with family and friends, shopping trips, and jigsaw puzzles.
In her earlier years, Barb attended the Chicora United Methodist Church. Later, she and her husband enjoyed camping at Wolf’s Campground and attending the Mt. Joy United Methodist Church, near Knox.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Dale L. “Bud” Barnhart, who passed away on August 3, 2018. The couple had been married in Chicora on January 12, 1951.
Barb is survived by two daughters, Debbie Sheakley and her husband, Doug of Karns City and Laurie D. Young and her husband, Ron of Chicora; three grandchildren, Shaun Sheakley of Karns City, Jason Young of Chicora, and Jamie Saylor and her husband, Bob of Bruin; five great grandchildren, Marlee Sheakley and her fiancé, Alex Christie, Danika Sheakley, and Austin, Amber, and Sydney Young. Also surviving is a brother-in-law, Dick Craig of Chicora, as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a sister, Sherry Miller and her husband Dick, a brother, Don Hutchison and his wife Pat, and a sister-in-law, Betty Craig.
Friends will be received at the Hile Funeral Home of Chicora, 339 Chicora Fenelton Rd. Chicora from 6-9 p.m. Thursday, October 8, 2026, and on Friday, October 9th, from 2-3 p.m. A funeral service will follow from the funeral home at 3 p.m. Friday with the Rev. Jeffrey Miller, Barb’s nephew, Senior Pastor of Harvest Bible Chapel Pittsburgh North, officiating. The interment will be in Hemphill Cemetery, Chicora.
