The Boys & Girls Club Along The Allegheny, located in Emlenton, PA has been gearing up for summer.

Established in 2001 by a group of business leaders of the Emlenton area, the club is open for kid’s ages 8 to 17 years of age. Now in its 24th year the club has been busy planning some summer fun.

New this summer to the club is Kim Callendar who has been hired as the Summer Program Coordinator. Kim previously worked at A-C Valley and currently works in the Keystone School District as a Paraprofessional.

Kim will work with AmeriCorps members Jaxon Sundling and Sophia McGarvey who served their first term under AmeriCorps last summer at the club.

This summer will be about getting kids out into the community, learning and being active.

On June 16th and 17th the kids enjoy a two day experience at All Saints Camp located along the Allegheny River in Emlenton. The two day camp was about getting disconnected with technology and connected with nature.

On arrival the kids enjoyed a hike around the 90 acre campus and learned a little bit of history of the place thanks to Josh Ossyialn the Director of All Saints Camp. The two day event featured a create your own camp shirt contest, scavenger Bingo (FUNGO) hunt, games, swimming, movie and a Yoga session with Sara Buzard, a professional Yoga Instructor and owner of River Vibes Yoga of Emlenton.

To close out camp the kids enjoyed a cookout with their families on Tuesday evening. (More camp photos below.) Prizes were awarded in the shirt contest and those that aced the quiz about the history of the camp. This camp was made possible thanks to the funds received by the Phillips Trust.

Also in the works for the summer program is a “How It Is Made Tour” featuring the kids visiting area businesses to see how things are made.

On Thursday, June 19th, the members enjoyed a trip to Helper’s Meats located just outside Emlenton. The kids enjoyed asking questions and getting a chance to see how our food goes from the farm to the table. After the tour, the kids enjoyed a lunch provided by Helper’s.

Any business that might be interested in giving a brief tour of their business can contact Kim at the club at 724-867-3122.

Thanks to a working relationship with the Milton Hershey School, the kids are off to Hershey Park on Tuesday, June 24h to spend a day touring the school and fun at the park.

The Boys and Girls Club would like to make a special thank you to Otto’s Tavern who graciously supports the Boys & Girls Club each year. This year they raised $17,100 at the Otto Memorial Ride. This money allows us to do so many things throughout the summer and year at the club.

The Boys and Girls Club is a non-profit 501(c) 3 organization whose vision is to inspire, educate, guide and enable all young people, especially those from disadvantaged circumstances to realize their full potential as productive, responsible caring citizens.
