Byron J. “Bud” Rumbaugh, 76, of Emlenton, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 19, 2026, at AHN - St. Vincent Hospital in Erie.

Byron was born in West Monterey, Clarion County, on December 7, 1949. He was the son of the late Alfred and Leona Radaker Rumbaugh. When Bud was four years old, his family moved from Clarion County to Warren, OH. Bud was a graduate of Warren G. Harding High School in Warren, OH. Following high school, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and honorably served his country in Vietnam. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, canoeing, and could always be found on the Allegheny River. Bud was a self-employed truck driver working for both Landstar and Hickman Lumber. Together, he and his wife owned and operated Emlenton Outfitters and Canoe Rental in Emlenton for 22 years.

Bud is survived by his wife, Denise Chappell Rumbaugh, whom he married in Emlenton on October 17, 1996. He is also survived by his children: Jessica Latchaw and her husband Joe of King’s Mountain NC, Jennifer Rumbaugh and her wife Sarah of Indian Lands, SC, and Trent Rumbaugh and his wife Sue of Indian Trails, SC; a stepson Dominic Abate and his wife Melissa of Slovan; his grandchildren: Joshua Latchaw, Jordyn Latchaw and Nevaya Rumbaugh; his step grandchildren: Trevor, Carter, Mason and Jilian. Bud is also survived by a step great-granddaughter, Kinsley Abate, his mother-in -law, Lillian Chappell, as well as several nieces, nephews, cousins, brothers-in-law, and sisters-in-law.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Mary, Jack, and Bonnie, his stepson Kenneth Abate, and a nephew, Michael Rumbaugh.

Friends will be received at the Hile Funeral Home, Inc., 1204 Kerr Ave. Emlenton from Noon – 1 pm on Wednesday, May 27. A funeral service will follow from the funeral home at 1 pm. Military honors will be accorded at 1 pm by the VETS Honor Guard. Interment will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery in the Village of Dutch Hill. To send a condolence, please visit www.hilefh.com.
