Carl James “Jim” Hartle Sr., 73, of Petrolia, Washington Twp., went to be with the Lord Tuesday, September 6, 2022, at Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh following a brief illness.
Carl James was born in Huey on January 4, 1949. He was the son of the late Wilbur J. and Betty Johnston Hartle.
Jim was a 1966 graduate of Union High School in Rimersburg and had been employed for many years at Sonneborn in Petrolia. He retired from the maintenance department at the hydro in 2011.
He was a decorated U.S Army veteran, having served in Vietnam, and was a Purple Heart recipient. He was of the Roman Catholic faith and was a long-time member of St. Faustina Parish in West Sunbury. Jim was a member of the American Legion Post in Chicora, VFW Post 7073 in Parker, and the North Butler County Hunting and Fishing Club. He was an avid hunter and enjoyed collecting and selling knives. He was an all-sports enthusiast and looked forward to attending his granddaughter’s sporting events. He enjoyed good home-cooked food, going out to eat, farming, raising cows, and going to the movies. He was an avid conservative and enjoyed talking politics, unabashedly and proudly saying, “Make America Great Again”.
Jim is survived by his devoted wife of nearly 50 years, Anna H. Luchkiw Hartle; a son, Carl James “Jimmy” Hartle Jr. and his wife, Danica, of Eau Claire; a daughter, Kristin M. Anderson and her husband, Jason, of Hilliards; a sister, Mary Ellen Hawk and her husband, Rick, of Fenelton; he was affectionately called “Grandpa and Papa” to five granddaughters, who were the love of his life, Alexandria Hartle, Bailey Hartle, Cydney Hartle, Harley Anderson, and Macey Anderson; a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Robert and Nancy Luchkiw of Petrolia, as well as a number of nieces, nephews, cousins, and good friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Laney Anderson, and his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Stephen and Mary Luchkiw.
A private visitation and blessing service officiated by the Rev. Sean Francis, Parochial Vicar of St. Faustina Parish will be held at the Hile Funeral Home of Karns City. Interment with military honors provided by the Roy Calvin McGinnis VFW Post 7073 in Parker will be in the North Washington Union Cemetery.
