Charles J. Cunningham Sr.

Charles J. Cunningham Sr., 80, of Petrolia, formerly of Sarver, passed away Tuesday afternoon, June 10, 2025, at Butler Memorial Hospital. 

Charles was born in Butler on January 9, 1945.  He was the son of the late Samuel A. and Mabel G. Harbison Cunningham. 

He was a 1963 Graduate of Butler High School. After his graduation, he proudly served with the United States Navy Airborne in Vietnam.  Mr. Cunningham had been employed for many years at Allegheny Ludlum in Brackenridge. He was an avid horse enthusiast owning and raising Belgian horses. Charles had a strong work ethic and enjoyed working on his farm in Fairview Township. The couple had lived in Sarver before moving to the farm full-time.   

He is survived by his loving wife Roberta M. “Birdie” Teeters Cunningham whom he married in Winchester, VA on April 18, 1969.

Also surviving are his children: his adopted son Terrance D. Cunningham and his wife Michelle of Sarver, his daughter Heather Dawn Cunningham Liggett and her significant other Michael D. LaMunion of Baden, and his son Charles J. “CJ” Cunningham Jr. and his fiancé Debra L Benedetti of Cross City, Florida; four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; as well as several nieces, nephews, cousins, brothers in law and sisters in law. 

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter Anna Stamp, and several brothers and sisters.

Private funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Hile Funeral Home of Karns City, 128 Main St. Karns City.
