Clarion Conservation District Happenings

· April 18th - 7th Annual Earth Day at Cook Forest event for local high school students. Coordinated by the Clarion Conservation District. Students will rotate through stations featuring environmental topics such as forestry, fish, aquatic macroinvertebrates, and falconry. Station leaders include members of the local Iron Furnace Chapter of Trout Unlimited, professors from Penn West Clarion University and students, USDA-NRCS Foresters, and Clarion Conservation District staff. The event will be held from 9:00am - 1:45pm near Shelters 1 & 2 at Cook Forest State Park. 

· April 25th - Earth Week Litter Clean-up event from 4:30-6:30pm. Open to anyone in the community to attend to celebrate Earth Week with the Clarion Conservation District. Meet at the corner of Miola and McCleary Rd. in Clarion, PA. Safety vests, gloves, and bags will be provided. Register by April 23rd by contacting hbequeathccd @gmail.com or 814-393-6147. 

· April 30th - Tri-County Envirothon competition from 9:00am - 1:45pm at Clear Creek State Park near the Swimming Pond. Students from Clarion County, Forest County, and Jefferson County will compete in a hands-on competition featuring environmental topics such as aquatics, soils, forestry, wildlife, and the current issue of the year: renewable energy for a sustainable future. Winning teams have an opportunity to move on to compete at the state event held in Mifflinburg, PA later in May.  Awards ceremony will be around 1:00-1:30pm. 

· May 11th - Beginner’s Mushroom Hike program from 9:00am-12:00pm near Shelter #1 at Cook Forest State Park for ages 10 & up. (see attached flyer for more details).The hike will be hosted by the Clarion Conservation District, PA Mushroom Company, and the Western Pennsylvania Mushroom Club. The event is part of Remake Learning Days, the largest family learning festival in the nation, taking place across Western Pennsylvania from May 2nd-22nd. Remake Learning Days invites children, families, and educators to make space for wonder and unlock knowledge and fun through the festival’s dynamic learning experiences. The Beginner’s Mushroom Hike is just one of many events propelling hands-on, family learning from May 2-22 through an engaging itinerary from creators and organizations across the area.
