Clarion County Garden Club Awards $1,000 Scholarship

The Hannah Fox Memorial Scholarship for 2024 was awarded to Jonathan Hansford from Keystone High School. The scholarship of $1,000 was presented by the Clarion County Garden Club.

Jonathan will be graduating from Keystone High School and plans to attend Gannon University to study Freshwater and Marine Biology, while participating in cross country track. He plans on using his degree to become a marine biologist and eventually become a professor while performing research.

Hansford is in the National Honor Society at Keystone High School. He also participated in cross country, track and field, Ski Club, band and fellowship of Christian Students. In his free time he enjoys running, fishing, boating, photography, hiking, landscaping, and most other outdoor activities.

The Garden Club of Clarion County was founded August 27, 1929 when Mrs. Hannah Emlen Fox, of Foxburg, invited to her home twenty-two women representing each town, village and hamlet in the county. The club was formed to promote conservation and beauty in Clarion County. It was admitted tot he State Federation in 1930.

The scholarship is open to a student graduating from a Clarion County public, private, or home school program who is an entering freshman, sophomore, junior or senior in a college or university for the 2024-25 academic year. Applicants must be a resident of Clarion County or children, grandchildren, or legal dependents of a Federated Garden Club Member. Applicants must be majoring in horticulture, floriculture, landscape design/architecture, biology (excluding medical), forestry, wildlife science, conservation, forest agronomy, city planning, environmental concerns, land management, or botany.
