Customer Appreciation Week at Community Christian Thrift Store

In Loving Memory

I’d like the memory of me to be a happy one.

I’d like to leave an afterglow

of smiles when life is done.

I’d like to leave an echo

whispering softly down the ways.

Of happy times and laughing times

and bright and sunny days.

I’d like the tears of those who grieve,

to dry before the sun of happy memories

that I leave when life is done.

On May 22, 2023, God called home one of the amazing volunteers at the Community Christian Thrift Store. Virginia “Ginny” Thompson, had devoted over 20 years of service volunteering at the thrift store. She would often talk about the history of the thrift store, and enjoyed talking about all the wonderful memories she had of the customers and volunteers.

The first thrift store called “Moniteau Area Thrift Store” opened on December 9th, 2002, in the old Marion School Building. Through the years, the thrift store location would change a few times, landing it to its current building at, 1005 Annisville Road, Petrolia PA, (located right of route 38, three miles north of North Washington and three miles south of Eau Claire), with the name Community Christian Thrift Store.

Even with moving locations and changing its name to Community Christian Thrift Store, Ginny continued to volunteer a couple days a week, usually on Tuesday and Saturday (but would also volunteer other days when workers were needed). She was a fundamental part of the success that the thrift store has achieved in its 20 plus years of operations.

One of her main missions was to always help those in our community who were in need. Ginny not only volunteered, but she also became friends with many of the customers. She was always greeting customers with a smile and would often start up a conversation and get to know the customer. She had a gift to “gab” and many times, that would lead the thrift store to gaining new volunteers.

While God may have called her home, and she is missed greatly, the mission continues at the thrift store. She was a great inspiration to many, and her legacy will continue for many years to come. If you have recently shopped at Community Christian Thrift Store, you may have noticed a beautiful memory plaque that was placed by the checkout register. (Inscription from the plaque is above). Folks want to remember her for her years of service and dedication.

Please help them celebrate Virginia “Ginny” Thompson’s life and her time volunteering at the thrift store. To help celebrate her life the Community Christian Thrift Store is having a Customer Appreciation Week February 12-16th. Please stop out, share your stories, and enjoy your time shopping.

There will be light refreshments daily ata the thrift store. The store is open Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday 10am—3pm. Wednesdays we are open 10am—6pm, and is closed on Sundays.

The Thrift store number is (724) 894-0072 and address is 1005 Annisville Road, Petrolia PA.

“Thank you, Ginny for all you did to help make Community Christian Thrift Store as successful as it is today. We, at, the Thrift Store, miss you but are sure you are enjoying your time in Heaven!”
