On June 23rd, Luke Pentz of Emlenton was formally recognized for his successful completion of all requirements necessary to earn the Major General William “Billy” Mitchell Award. The ceremony took place at his regularly scheduled Civil Air Patrol meeting in Franklin, where he was promoted to the rank of C/2nd Lieutenant.

To earn this award, cadets must pass a series of cumulative leadership and aerospace exams, in addition to rigorous physical fitness tests. Also, cadets attend mandatory character development classes, give oral presentations, and graduate from an intensive military-style basic encampment. Billy Mitchell cadets have successfully promoted through all ranks from Cadet Airman Basic to Cadet Chief Master Sergeant. Nationwide, only 15% of all cadets achieve this level. Mitchell Cadets who choose to enlist in the U.S. Air Force are promoted to E-3 upon enlistment and completion of Basic Military Training. Mitchell Cadets are also looked upon favorably when applying for the U.S. Air Force Academy.

Special guest, TSgt. Cresswell of the 311th Recruiting Squadron, also attended the meeting and is pictured with Cadet Pentz, who is holding a Certificate of Recognition from Glenn “GT” Thompson Jr., U.S. Representative for Pennsylvania’s 15th congressional district.
