Cadet Captain Luke Pentz, 14, of Civil Air Patrol’s Clarion Composite Squadron was presented with the Amelia Earhart Award on March 26th, during his promotion ceremony at the Clarion County Airport. Senator Scott Hutchinson and Squadron Commander, 1st Lt. Mel Aaron, presented the award along with a special citation from the Senate of Pennsylvania.
In order to qualify for the Earhart Award, Pentz has had to complete the first eleven of 16 achievements in CAP’s cadet program, have lived up to Earhart’s standards of excellence, have successfully completed comprehensive leadership and aerospace exams, and have passed rigorous physical fitness tests.
Pentz has studied Air Force perspectives on leadership, including principles of officership and the responsibilities of command. He has also studied advanced aspects of drill and ceremonies, participated in a Staff Duty Analysis Program, and mentored new cadets.
Earhart achievers, like Pentz, are looked upon favorably by all U.S. military service academies, especially the U.S. Air Force Academy.
Only 3% of CAP cadets nationwide have achieved this distinction since its inception in 1964.
