Herbert J. “Skip” Nichol


Herbert J. “Skip” Nichol, 82, of Karns City, passed away Wednesday afternoon, November 22, 2023, at Allegheny General Hospital from injuries he sustained from an accidental fall at his home.

Herbert was born in Brady’s Bend Twp., Armstrong Co. on July 5, 1941. He was the son of the late Jesse and Margaret Olcus Nichol.

Skip was a 1960 graduate of East Brady High School. In his early years, he had been employed by Rex-Hide in East Brady and retired following 32 years of service from Penreco in Karns City. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and working outside his home. He was well-known for keeping his lawn and home immaculate. He enjoyed spending time truck-pulling with his family and was a true pet lover.

He is survived by his wife, Frances D. Sherwin Nichol, whom he married in Chicora on November 27, 1964. Also surviving are two daughters, Julie L. Cranmer (Chris Bole) of Butler and Crystal A. Zedreck (Edward) of Chicora; three grandchildren, Rebba Stillwagon (Jake) of East Butler, Nicholas Cranmer (Mariah) of Fenelton, Logan Cranmer of Butler; a sister, Judy E. Nichol of Brady’s Bend; a brother-in-law, William “Bill” Sherwin of Petrolia, as well as a number of nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a number of brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.

Friends will be received at the Hile Funeral Home of Karns City, 128 Main St., Karns City, from 1-4 p.m. Sunday, November 26, 2023. A funeral literary outside of Mass will follow at 4 p.m. Sunday from the funeral home, with Rev. Matt McClain, pastor of St. Clare Parish, officiating. the inurnment will be in the columbarium at Hillview Cemetery, in the village of Kepple’s Corners.
