Jeannette N. McCollough


Jeannette N. McCollough, 98, of Fenelton, formerly of Chicora, entered her eternal rest Thursday afternoon, February 17, 2022, while in the company of her loving family.

Jeannette was born in Donegal Twp. on February 13, 1924. She was the daughter of the late Louis and Dora Lechner Garing.

Jeannette graduated from Fairview Twp. Karns City High School in 1941. She was married on October 12, 1944, to E. Fred McCollough. Mr. McCollough preceded her in death on June 15, 1996.

She loved spending time in her garden, tending her flowerbeds, and going on family vacations. She was accomplished at quilting, embroidery, and sewing. She was well-known in the family for baking pies and cookies. She loved watching the birds and other wildlife from her kitchen window. Most of all, she loved her family and enjoyed family gatherings and reunions.

Jeannette was a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church where she taught Sunday School and was a member of the church Altar Guild. Jeannette was a generous and caring person. She drove for Meals on Wheels for over 25 years and spent many hours taking care of family members.

Surviving are her sons, Wayne McCollough and his wife, Pamela, of Lock Haven and Douglas McCollough and his wife, Linda, of Fenelton; a son-in-law, Edward Clever of Altoona; her grandchildren, Lisa Hammond and her husband, Joe, of Flinton; Melanie Gearhart and her husband, Brian, of Hollidaysburg; Marisa Lentz and her husband, Chris of Sterling, VA; Jordan McCollough, and his fiance, Gabriella, of Chapel Hill, NC; Kevin McCollough of Fenelton and David McCollough of Fenelton; a step great-grandchild, seven great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild; her siblings, Anna Truscott of Chicora; John Garing and his wife, Harriet, of Chicora; and Marilyn Knepshield of Leechburg; a sister-in-law Joan Garing of New Wilmington, formerly of Chicora; as well as a number of nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband of 52 years, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Barbara Clever; her sisters, Dorothy Gallaher, Vemberline Sedwick, and Alice Garing; her brothers, Herbert and Lewis Garing; her sisters-in-law, Phyllis Garing and Jeannette V. Garing; her brothers-in-law, Ralph Sedwick, William Gallaher, Clarence Truscott, and Donald Knepshield.

Friends will be received at the Hile Funeral Home of Chicora, 339 Chicora Fenelton Rd., Chicora, from 1-3 and 6-8 p.m. Sunday and on Monday from 12-1 p.m. in the Good Shepherd Room at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 2217 Chicora Rd., Chicora, PA 16025, where a funeral service will follow at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Joseph Boomhower, church pastor, officiating. Interment will be beside her husband in Hillview Cemetery in the village of Kepple's Corners.
