Joanne Alice Lewis, of the Clintonville area, passed away on Saturday, May 31, 2025, surrounded by her loving family.
Born July 15, 1942, in Pittsburgh, she was the daughter of the late Thomas J. and Anna Mae Brangwynne Costic. Joanne was the adored wife of the late William R. “Red” Lewis.
Surviving are her three children, Linda (Mark) Ritsig, Michael (Niki) Lewis, and Jessica (Ryan) Quinn; and four grandsons, Andrew Ritsig, Aaron Ritsig, Brandon (Brooke) Shick, and Damon (Madalyn) Lewis.
She is also survived by her sister Janice (Robert) Ihrig of Eagle River, AK; a sister-in-law, Janet Sergy of Pacific Grove, CA; and several nieces and nephews.
Joanne was a beloved teacher at Victory Elementary School, part of the Franklin Area School District. She mentored numerous student teachers, served as a Lead Teacher in the region, and was an active member of the Franklin Area Education Association.
Joanne cherished her family, and the gifts of her love and faith will remain. Also treasured were many dear and even lifelong friends who will miss her hugs, cards, and calls. “Mrs. Lewis” cared deeply for her students through the years. Even in the last few months, hearing the names of her students would bring her a smile.
In accordance with Joanne’s wishes, a private burial will be arranged at the convenience of the family.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made in memory of Joanne (and all of the animals that she rescued, nursed, and adopted) to Precious Paws Animal Rescue, 720 Atlantic Avenue, Franklin, PA 16323.
The Larry E. McKinley Funeral Home in Clintonville is assisting the family with arrangements.
