Lady Gremlins Basketball Team Bring Back Experience


The Karns City girls basketball team heads into the 2021-2022 campaign with some experience gained last year on the hardwood. The Gremlins return a group of players who have seen some quality minutes at the varsity level. Players returning for head coach Steve Andreassi include four juniors and five seniors. Seniors include: Emma Johns, Abigail Callihan, Rossi McMillen, Brooke Emanuel and Julia Andreassi. Returning Juniors inlcude Emma Dailey, Rosi Carden, Emily Griffith and Jordan Macurak. With no sophomores on the team, Andreassi just might look to get a few freshman into the mix.

Coach Andreassi’s squad started the season strong with a record of 4-2 in December. Since the new year, the Gremlins have been forced to re-focus after three consecutive losses to C-L, Moniteau and Union. All games in which the Gremlins were in but could not find a way to finish. The average of margin of loss being only five points.

Since then, the Gremlins have picked up a much needed home win against Clarion (35-28) (Abby Callihan 11, Rosie Carden 7) and A-C Valley (55-15) (Emma Johns 11, Rossi McMillen, 8, Emma Dailey, 8)

Karns City is currently 7-6 overall and 3-2 in the KSAC South.

Offensively Karns City averages 45.6 points per game and has had multiple players lead the team in scoring each night.

The lady Gremlins have eight games left on the schedule including some key matchups against, Union, Redbank, C-L and Moniteau.

The remaining games include: 1/24 at home vs. West Shamokin; 1/26 at home vs. North Clarion; 1/28 away at Union; 2/1 at home vs. Keystone; 2/3 away vs. Cranbery; 2/9 at home vs. Redbank; 2/11 at home vs. C-L., and a pivotal game at Moniteau on February 15th.
