Mildred C. Marterella, 80, of Emlenton, went home to be with her Lord and Savior Sunday evening, May 4, 2025, at UPMC Hamot in Erie.
Mildred was born in the village of Hooker, Butler County on July 28, 1944. She was the daughter of the late Paul and Shirley Gibson Campbell.
She was a 1962 graduate of Moniteau High School where she played trumpet in the high school’s marching band and met the love of her life, John R. Marterella. Mildred attended x-ray technician school at Butler Memorial Hospital, where she was employed in her earlier years. She also worked at Eau Claire Hardware and retired following many years of service with the Social Security Administration in Boyers. Mildred was a long-time active member of St. Michael Roman Catholic Church in Emlenton. She enjoyed country music, especially Tammy Wynette. Mildred served on the planning committee of her high school reunions. She loved her black coffee and extra crispy bacon for breakfast on her BLTs. She was an avid golfer and Steelers fan. Mildred was affectionately called “Mee Maw”, by her grandkids, who were the absolute light of her life.,
Mildred was married on January 18, 1964, to John R. Marterella at Epiphany Roman Catholic Church Boyers. Mr. Marterella preceded her in death on November 10, 1999.
Surviving are three sons, James R. “Jim” Marterella (Natalie Kerstetter) of Erie, Mark C. Marterella and his wife, Pamela, of Franklin; and John R. “J.J.” Marterella Jr. and his wife, Melissa, of Grand Haven, Michigan; her grandchildren, Nathan J. Marterella and his wife, Tayler, of Oil City; Conor J. Marterella (Madison Weaver) of Franklin; and Grace and Vivian Marterella of Grand Haven, MI; a brother, David Campbell and his wife, Jane, of Sandy Lake; her sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Carol Marterella of Hilliards, Donald Marterella and his wife, Karen, of Grove City, Aleda and Robert “Buzz” Swank of Butler, as well as several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Anthony P. “Tony” Marterella, her brother, Lynn “Herb” Campbell, and a brother-in-law, Carmen Marterella.
Friends will be received at the Hile Funeral Home Inc., 1204 Kerr Ave., Emlenton, from 4-7 p.m. Friday, May 9, 2025. Members of The Altar Rosary Society of St. Michael’s will pray the rosary at 6:45 p.m. Friday. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 10, 2025, with the Very Rev. David Foradori, pastor of St. Michael The Archangel Roman Catholic Church, officiating. The interment will be at Epiphany Church Cemetery, Boyers.
