On Sunny Lane: Life is But a Dream

I began recording my dreams recently—at least the ones I remember.
I have heard that, by doing so, a person can gain wisdom to help with their daily lives. So, I thought that I would give it a try and maybe the dreams that come from my inner self could give me some insight into my outer life.
The first, and most-important, step is to remember the dream. They can be very elusive. They can disappear from memory before I have time to pick up pen and paper. Some dreams are more vivid than others and some are more memorable.
Some people say that certain mundane items that appear in dreams have more esoteric meanings. I say, why don’t the mundane items just say what they mean? For instance, if a house appears, does that mean that I will be getting a new house? Or that someone else will be getting a new house? Does it mean that I should clean house or, maybe, repaint it?
I’ve been told that keeping a journal will help identify trends that will be beneficial in waking life. There are some dreams that completely baffle me. For example, one day last week I dreamed I had grown a short, floppy finger between the index and middle finger of my left hand. I was planning to smash it with a stone, but I woke up instead. How can a dream like that make my life better?
Sometimes I think it’s not worth the bother to try to figure things out—that dreams are just a release from daily events.
However, I have read about some dreams that were prophetic. Joseph, in the Old Testament, had a dream about 12 sheaves of wheat that eventually landed him in prison. On the other hand, a prophetic dream was responsible for getting him out of prison—and becoming the richest and most influential person in Egypt, next to the king.
In the book named after him, Daniel interpreted a troubling vision for King Nebuchadnezzer that earned him release from prison.
And, would the history of man’s salvation been different if another Joseph had not heeded the dream about Mary carrying the baby Jesus in her womb? How would it have been altered if Joseph had ignored the angel who appeared in a dream to take his family and escape to Egypt when King Herod was killing all of the baby boys?
I wonder if some people are having prophetic dreams now and changing their lives. So far, I haven’t.
