Patricia J. “Patty” Johnston


Patricia J. “Patty” Johnston, 80, a life-long St. Petersburg resident, went home to be with the Lord early Sunday morning, August 27, 2023 at Clarion Healthcare and Rehabilitation.

Patricia was born in St. Petersburg on September 27, 1942. She was the daughter of the late Walter and Wilma Smith Texter.

She attended St. Petersburg-Richland High School. She was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, and homemaker. She was an avid music lover and enjoyed watching Christian programs on television. Patty played the organ by ear and most especially enjoyed playing hymns from her old St. Petersburg Church of the Nazarene Hymnal. She enjoyed babysitting for St. Petersburg friends, watching the Steelers, sitting on her porch relaxing and talking with friends and family and listening to the birds.

She had been a long time member of the former St. Petersburg Church of the Nazarene and later attended the Baptist Church in St. Petersburg, New Zion EC Church, and had most recently attended the Turkey City Church of God.

Patty was married in Emlenton on November 10, 1962 to Richard W. Johnston. Mr. Johnston preceded her in death on April 4, 2004.

Surviving is a son, Richard W. “Rick” Johnston II, of St. Petersburg; two grandchildren, Misti D. Flick and her husband, Cody, of Harrisville and ARNG, Sgt. Shelby A. Kemery of Slippery Rock; two great grandchildren, Scarlette and Cayde Flick; a son-in-law, Roger Kemery of St. Petersburg; two sisters, Maxine Landers and Linda Mattern, both of St. Petersburg, as well as a number of nieces, nephews, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, and cousins.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Terri L. Kemery; three brothers, Donald, Walter, and Stanley Texter; a niece and a number of brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.

Friends will be received at the Hile Funeral Home Inc., 802 Grove St., St. Petersburg, from 1-3 and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, August 29, 2923. A funeral service will be held from the funeral home at 11 a.m. Wednesday, August 30, 2023 with the Rev. Harry Hoff, pastor of Hope Rising Community Church, officiating. Interment will be in St. Petersburg Cemetery.
