Richard A. “Rick” File

Richard A. “Rick” File, 73, of Bruin, a long-time Bruin Area business owner, passed away peacefully in the comfort of his home early Monday afternoon, February 9, 2026. 

Richard was born in Butler on April 14, 1952. He was the son of the late William “Bill” File and the late Margaret Rankin File Matijak.

Rick was a 1970 graduate of Karns City Area High School and attended Butler County Community College. He attended the Martinsburg Church of Bruin. He was a skilled mechanic and owned and operated Files Garage in Bruin for more than 30 years. Rick was trusted and respected among his many customers. He and his wife enjoyed antiquing, fishing, and camping. In his earlier years, Rick coached Bruin Little League and Karns City Midget and Mites Football. 

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Mitzi Miller File; three sons, Bryan P. File and his wife, Angel of Cabot, Curt J. File and his wife, Ashley of Bruin, and Mark A. File and his wife, Tessa of Fairview; Rick was affectionately “Pops” or “Poppy” to his 10 grandchildren, whom he adored. He is additionally survived by his brother-in-law and sister-in-law, James and Kim Miller of Chicora, and a sister-in-law, Patty File of East Brady, as well as a number of nieces, nephews, and cousins. 

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, David and Jeffrey File, and his in-laws, Jack and Ruth Miller. 

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Hile Funeral Home of Karns City.  A memorial service at the Martinsburg Church of Bruin will be announced at a later date.  Interment will be in Bear Creek Cemetery in Petrolia.
