Richard A. “Rick” Long, 67, of Fenelton, passed away peacefully in the company of his loving wife in the comfort of his home early Tuesday afternoon, December 2, 2025.
Richard was born in Butler on August 1, 1958. He was the son of the late Robert W. and Margaret Bega Long.
Rick was of the Catholic faith, and in his early years, Rick and his wife attended the former St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church at Sugarcreek.
He was a 1976 graduate of Butler Area High School. Rick was employed for many years at NAPCO in Valencia and retired as a master mechanic in 2019 from AK Steel/Cleveland Cliffs.
Rick enjoyed hunting, fishing, working with his tractor, always having a project, camping and boating, on the Allegheny River in East Brady, and a cold Bud Light with family and friends.
He is survived by his wife, Karen M. Anderson Long, whom he married at St. Paul Roman Catholic Church in Butler on July 1, 1978. Also surviving are two children, Heather L. Long of Fenelton and Richard A. Long Jr. and his wife, Crystal, of Kennerdell. He was affectionately “Pap” to his three grandchildren who were the light of his life, Baeden N. Long of Fenelton and Joseph A. and Jacob O. Long of Kennerdell; his aunt and uncle, Nancy and Joe Mellish; a sister in law and brother in law, Linda and Bob Steiner of Rattigan and a brother in law and sister in law, Thomas and Connie Anderson of Butler. Rick enjoyed the company of his caregiver, “Gerbil”. Also surviving are several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews, cousins, and many friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, William Long, and his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Leonard and Eunice Anderson.
Friends will be received at the Hile Funeral Home of Chicora, 339 Chicora Fenelton Rd., Chicora, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Thursday, December 4, 2025. A service outside of Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, December 5, 2025, from the funeral home with Parochial Vicar of St. Clare Parish, Rev. Alan Morris, officiating. The interment will be at Butler County Memorial Park.
