The Rimersburg Lions Club is setting the stage for a patriotic Veteran’s Day Blood Drive to be held on Wednesday, November 11, 2026 from 1:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. in the auxiliary gym of Union High School. The community service organization will be sponsoring the blood drive with the help of students from the Union High School National Honor Society.

At a recent meeting, Club members were reminded that individuals wishing to donate blood at the November 11th event should visit www.redcrossblood.org online to schedule an appointment to give blood or call the American Red Cross, who will be conducting the drive, at 1-800-733-2767.

Also at a recent meeting, several Rimersburg Lions were recognized by Lions District 14-N for their service and longevity in the Club.

The main recognition for the evening was the presentation of the Distinguished Service Award presented by Lions District 14-N Governor Brad Bailee to Rimersburg Lion Greg Mortimer in recognition of outstanding service, loyalty and devotion to the community of Rimersburg and Lionism.

Bailee noted Mortimer epitomized the motto of Lionism which is “We Serve”. He listed Mortimer’s initiation of the aforementioned Lions sponsored blood drive in coordination with the Union School District which now results in a major college scholarship for a Union High School senior. Bailee also lauded Mortimer for his long-time involvement in spearheading the free kindergarten eye screening program each year at Sligo Elementary School which screens for eye disorders in children before they begin kindergarten.

Bailee also noted the important role Mortimer plays in the success of the Rimersburg Lions Club as long-time secretary of the organization.

Other Lions receiving recognition by the District Governor were Lions International Monark Awards presented to Lions Alan Carmichael and Michael Graham for 25 years of membership in the Club and Lion Ray Scott for 40 years of membership in the Rimersburg Lions Club.
